Father's Day Yoga Pose

With Father’s Day fast approaching, it seems like a good time to tell all the dads around the world how you can incorporate yoga into your Father's Day day of relaxation. I bet you didn't know that Awkward Pose (Uttkatasana) can be practiced in the comfort of your own home while you watch the game...?

Here's how! During a commercial break (or bathroom break!):

• Distance your feet about 6 inches apart, raise your arms in front of you (palms down)
• Take a deep breath in and exhale, then lift yourself from your seated position halfway.
• Now arch your spine as if your back was against a wall and hold for a full count of ten.
• Slowly shift your weight (without moving your hips) to stand on your toes for a count of ten, taking a deep inhale and exhale.
• Staying on your toes, lower yourself to low squat position.

You just did Awkward pose!

In addition to building your concentration and determination, Awkward Pose firms and strengthens the muscles in your thighs, calves and hips. Regular practice of this pose aids in digestion, helps combat obesity, and corrects arthritis of knees, hips and ankles. Awkward Pose is also great for those of you with slipped or herniated discs.

This Father's Day, make Awkward Pose a family event - Get your entire family to form a circle (around the coffee table, perhaps!) and perform Awkward pose together. You’ll get lots of laughs in addition to a great stretch!

Happy Father's Day!
